The aim of the course is to follow the changes in the European way of understanding what art is, in the period from antiquity to classicism. The course will first focus on the Greek concept of "techne" in its ambivalence between craft) and creation. The difference between the ancient conception of poetry as something that does not obey the rules of discourse and art in the sense of a craft, which must obey the rules, will be emphasized. The course will focus on the concept of art in archaic poets, the Platonic and Aristotelian conception of art and changes in thinking about art in the Hellenistic period. Subsequently, the course will focus on the Latin term "ars". Subsequently, the concept of trivial and quadrivial degree of liberal arts will be observed in connection with the establishment of universities and the concept of "mechanical arts". The course will further focus on the Renaissance concept of "studia humanitatis" and will approach the Renaissance "defense of poetry". Simultaneously with following the development of the concept of art in the period from antiquity to the Renaissance, the lecture course will also pay attention to the complementary topic, which is the concept of care for artistic monuments in the period under review. |
