Course objectives:
The state examination in Discrete Mathematics and Algebra verifies the understanding of concepts and relationships in the field and the student's ability to actively apply the basic methods in Discrete Mathematics, Graph Theory, Combinatorial Optimization and Algebra. Emphasis is put on the understanding of relations between the individual concepts. The examination also verifies the student's level of mathematical presentation.
By signing up for this examination, the student chooses one of the specializations within the field of study Mathematics. This selection usually corresponds to the choice of the topic of the student's Master thesis.
Requirements on student
The evaluation is based on the acquired competences, such as the ability to present known theoretical results, carry out correct logical proofs, and apply theory to the analysis and solution of specific problems.
Content
The final state examination is an oral examination in front of a committee. The usual duration is approximately 30-45 minutes, with about 15 minutes per subject. The rules are given by the Department of Mathematics according to the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of West Bohemia. The main topics of this examination are announced by the Department of Mathematics annually.
