Course objectives:

The objective of this course is to introduce the basic tools and techniques from dynamic optimization and optimal control theory. The theory will be illustrated by applications from economics and management theory.

Requirements on student
|
Tutorial: Solve several theoretic and practical problems.
Exam: Written test and short interview with emphasis on understanding of fundamental notions, their interconnection and practical applications.

1. Introduction to calculus of variations (difference between static and dynamic optimization, applications in economics and management).
2. Fundamental theorem in calculus of variations, Euler-Lagrange equations.
3. Free-end-point problems and transversality conditions.
4. Hamilton-Jacobi equation. Shadow prices.
5. Necessary and sufficient optimality conditions. Second order conditions.
6. Utility functions of several variables.
7. Dynamic system and control problem.
8. Introduction to optimal control theory and its applications in economics.
9. Hamilton optimality conditions. Maximum principle.
10. Economic interpretation of multipliers in particular problems.
11. Model of optimal production.
12. Constrained controls.
13. Spare time. Exam preparation.

vysvětlit pojem řešení počáteční úlohy pro soustavu (obecně nelineárních) obyčejných diferenciálních rovnic prvního řádu |
vysvětlit základní pojmy diferenciálního počtu pro funkce více proměnných zejména v návaznosti na úlohy nepodmíněné optimalizace v konečné dimenzi |

pro zadanou funkci více proměnných vypočítat parciální derivace prvního a druhého řádu, stanovit gradient a Hessovu matici |
vyřešit okrajovou úlohu pro lineární obyčejnou diferenciální rovnici druhého řádu s konstantními koeficienty |
vyřešit počáteční úlohu pro soustavu lineárních obyčejných diferenciálních rovnic 1. řádu s konstantními koeficienty |

vysvětlit základní principy variačního počtu včetně rozdílu mezi statickou a dynamickou optimalizací |

pro zadaný problém z teorie optimálního řízení odvodit Hamiltonovy podmínky optima i princip maxima a následně vyřešit příslušnou úlohu |
sestavit matematické modely jednoduchých problémů z přírodních věd, ekonomie a managementu, na základě teoretických znalostí najít řešení příslušné optimalizační úlohy a interpretovat získané výsledky |
