Course objectives:
|
The student:
- will become acquainted with the summary of the major international instruments for conservation and cultural legislation in the Czech Republic
- will be familiar with the basic structures of historical buildings with focus on the principles used on our territory.
- will be familiar with the specific features of project preparation and project documentation in the process of care for historical monuments
- will understand the care for roofs of historic buildings, approaches to restore the building's architecture, preservation and maintenance, structural adjustment of castle ruins, care of stone sculptures and monuments.

Content
|
1st Week: International documents on landmarks protection. The law on state landmarks, organization of the Department of cultural protection in the Czech Republic. Specifics of the legislative procedures for construction projects to ensure the maintenance and restoration of monuments, the issue of protection of historic cities and villages, access to heritage protection in the Czech Republic
2nd Week: Pre-project preparation and project preparation for monuments (survey, photographic documentation, inventory of components, diagnostics, structural and historical survey, surveys of the facades, archaeological research, restoration surveys, material surveys)
3rd Week: Pre-project preparation and project preparation for monuments (preparation of concepts, recovery principles and types of presentation of the historic structure of monuments, project documentation, final realization project)
4th Week: List of structures used in various historical periods.
5th Week: Construction of historic buildings: walls, timber walls, ceilings, arches
6th Week: Construction of historic buildings: stairs, heating, water management
7th Week: Construction of historic buildings: doors and windows, finishes, additional constructions
8th Week: Approach to the restoration of monuments of folk architecture (general approaches, basic characteristics of structures and approaches for their repair: roofs, chimneys, brick walls, timber walls, horizontal structures)
9th Week: Approach to the restoration of monuments of folk architecture: basic characteristics of structures and approaches for their repair (roof systems, stairs, floors, doors and windows, agricultural structures and their characteristics)
10th Week: Roofs of historic buildings (the main principles, repairs of roofs, bearing elements, metal elements)
11th Week: Stone statues and monuments (the methodological and aesthetic principles, selected problems in the restoration, technology, surveys)
12th Week: Protection, maintenance and modifications of castle ruins (methodological approaches, classification approaches, styles, historical value, social function, conception of repairs, repairs)
13th Week: Preventive care for historic buildings and objects stored within.
