Course objectives:
|
The first part of a two-semester project. The aim is to acquaint students with a comprehensive and analytical approach to the design and optimization of new buildings and its practical application.
Scope of submitted work:
- analysis of boundary conditions of the building design
- at least 3 variants of the structural system of the building, preliminary dimensioning of the main load-bearing elements
- design of compositions of peripheral and internal structures and their structural and physical analysis (thermal protection, building acoustics, etc.)
- technical solution drawings - floor plans, roof floor plan, floor plan of roof bearing structure, vertical sections, technical view of the front facade
- calculation of foundation structures, floor plan of foundations
- structural solution drawings - drawings of the shape or composition of selected parts of the building
- situation drawings - situation of wider relations, situation of real estate cadastre, coordination situation of construction
- generals plans of HVAC pipelines
- text appendices - accompanying report, summary technical report, architectural and technical report

Content
|
Independent project in the framework of modern program-oriented teaching with a focus on solving problems of construction practice. The student will process complex problem of construction practice using the knowledge gained from the study on an appropriate level. In the first semester of the two-semester course, the overall concept of the medium-sized building will be created and optimized.
1. Choice of suitable building based on architectural study, published presentations of interesting buildings in the media, etc. As suitable building is assumed administrative, residential, municipal, sport building, etc., of the height to 8 floors or 36 m span of the roof structure.
2. Comprehensive analysis of selected building - functions, properties, neighbourhood, orientation to the cardinal points, layout and dimensional requirements, the foundation conditions etc. - in the form of text reports and sketches if necessary.
3. - 4. Variant design of the structural system and building envelope - 3 suitable options of material, structural and technological solutions (schemes of layouts and section 1:200 + text description).
5. - 6. Analysis of options of structural system and building envelope, selecting the best solution and its optimization (text description + schemes 1:100).
7. - 8. Conceptual design of completion structures and sanitary systems, (schemes 1:100 + preliminary calculations of building physics and building sanitary).
9. - 11. Preliminary structural analysis, design and assessment of selected structural elements of the load-bearing system, assessment of spatial rigidity and stability, design and assessment of connections. Structural drawings (shape, composition) 1:100.
12. Public presentation of the project.
13. Completion of the project. Assessment.
