Course objectives:

Intended for students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, bachelors study course Civil engineering
The student: - will be taught about the system of Eurocodes for design of constructions and the principles of structural design according to ČSN EN 1990 - will be taught about the basic requirements: design lifespan, durability and design situations, the basic variables, reliability methods, method of partial coefficients, probabilistic methods - will be taught about the ultimate limit state and the serviceability limit state, combinations of loads, management of reliability - will be taught about the ultimate limit state and the serviceability limit state, the combinations of loads and the reliability management - will be taught about loads for structures according to ČSN EN 1991 (dead weight, variable load, climatic loads, extraordinary loads, other types of load). - will be taught about principles of design of geotechnical structures according to EN 1997 and principles of design of structures for earthquake resistance according to EN 1998

Presentation and acceptance of a semester project at an adequate level

Content
|
1st Week: Principles of structural design 1. Development of design methods. System of Eurocodes. Validity and application of standards. Principles of structural design according to ČSN EN 1990. Basic requirements. Lifespan. Design situation. Main values.
2nd Week: Principles of structural design 2. Limit states. The method of partial coefficients. Load combinations for ultimate limit states and serviceability. Criteria of serviceability. Differentiation of reliability.
3rd Week: Permanent and variable loads. Own weight, permanent and variable loads. Examples of determination of load effects for basic bearing elements.
4th Week: Climatic loads 1. Snow load, frost, temperature. Exposure to water.
5th Week: Climatic loads 1. Wind loads.
6th Week: Other types of loads. Actions during execution, crane loads, transport load.
7th Week: Principles of design of geotechnical structures. Fundamentals. Combination of loads. Determination of load effects and resistance.
8th Week: Extraordinary loads 1. Design strategies for extraordinary situations. Categorization of structures into classes. Principles of robustness. Load by a vehicle impact, gas explosion, explosion of bombs.
9th Week: Extraordinary loads 2. The principles of calculating the response of structures. Dynamic load. Equivalent static load. Combination of loads.
10th week: Seismic loads 1. Seismic zone, classification of earthquakes according to macroseismic scales, Richter scale, design acceleration, spectra of elastic response.
11th Week: Seismic loads 2. Simplified and 3D calculation methods, dissipative properties and their use, decay, combination of seismic loading conditions.
12th Week: Reliability methods 1. Introduction to probabilistic methods of reliability theory. Basic concepts. Probabilistic methods and guidelines for their use.
13th Week: Reliability methods 2. Probability of failure, reliability index, approximation and simulation methods, target reliability level.
