Reading and analysis of the fiction and non fiction of contemporary American writers (J.D.Salinger, Norman Mailer, John Irving, John Cheever, John Updike, Joyce Carol Oates, William Styron, Kurt Vonnegut, E.L. Doctorow). Selected short stories from prominent writers of the 20th and 21th centuries will augment the discussions for a greater understanding and appreciation of American history, biography, religion, folklore, feminism, stereotypes and prejudice. Finally, the course will be concerned with issues like the formation of literary canon and the ideological context. This course is conducted in English.
