The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the subject of historical science, the development of history, and the basics of the philosophy of history. It also covers the tasks and usefulness of history as a scientific discipline, its relationship to other social science disciplines, the structure of history, the spectrum of sources and their criticism, editions of historical sources, and professional journals. Attention will also be paid to the issues of periodization of history, historical time, and institutions that preserve the legacy of the past.
