The course provide students with better orientation in diversification of Slavic languages by using students' knowledge of Russian language system compared to Czech language system. Lectures presents Slavic languages from the historical and comparative linguistics' point of view (Indo-European language, Balto-Slavic languages, proto-Slavic language, old Slavonic language as the first written Slavic language, following periods of the Slavic languages development, individual subcategories of Slavic languages) and from the structural and typological point of view as well. The lectures also define Slavic languages as national and standard languages, explain the principles of dynamics of Slavic languages and they look into the ethnologic and sociological aspects of today's Slavic languages, too. Furthermore, the content of the lectures consists of the Slavic patriotism and Slavonic studies today's development, of the prospects of the Slavonic studies and international Slavonic activities.
During the seminars, students are learning to identify the individual Slavic languages through the text analysis. Students are also supposed to present the short biography of the prominent researchers of the Slavonic studies.
