| This course is intended for postgraduates/Masters students. The aim of this course is to offer the basic orientation in the kinship studies as a core of the classic anthropology. The student will be able to use the genealogical method, and will gain orientation in kinship terminologies and the basic concepts of anthropological studies of kinship. Kinship as a basis of social organization will be discussed (lineage theory, cognatic descent, etc.), as well as kinship and the domestic domain (postmarital residence, household and the family, etc.), or the types and classification of marriage (polygamy, exogamy, etc.). Attention will be paid to the question of new reproductive technologies and the contemporary critique of kinship. |
